The band of the thousand and one faces
Last year, and matching the release of “Celebrate Greatest Hits” (2013), a retrospective of their 35 years career as one of the most successful British bands, Simple Minds did the world tour The Greatest Hits Live. This year they are repeating it and, after visiting several European countries, they will stop in Barcelona.
After their debut with “Life In A Day” (1979) Simple Minds recorded some of the most inventive, adventurous and seducing records of the after-punk era, and they established the canon for the British alternative scene. Since then, they have influenced musicians as diverse as Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Moby and The Horrors, and they have reached number one in the British charts with the albums “Sparkle In The Rain” (1984), “Once Upon A Time” (1985) and “Street Fighting Years” (1989), and they have had big hits such as “Promised You A Miracle”, “Waterfront”, “Sanctify Yourself”, “Mandela Day”, “Don´t You (Forget About Me)” and “Alive And Kicking”.
“One of the things I´m more proud of is when people ask me: ´What Simple Minds are you talking about? The avant-garde / art rock band? The pop / ambient band? The instrumental / political / folk band? The stadium band? Playing all these different styles but being, at the same time, the quintessence of Simple Minds is something great”, says its leader, Jim Kerr.
The Simple Minds live show in Barcelona, featuring Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes, will be a good chance to check out all those sides of the Scottish band.
