The cantaor presents “Sonetos y poemas para la libertad” for the first time
He´s a versatile singer who masters the different flamenco styles, and he is, at the same time, heterodox with orchestra, “copla” or singing in Catalan.
Miguel Poveda is presenting his new album “Sonetos y poemas para la libertad” in the Pedralbes Festival. In this record, he´s compiling a series of verses, classic and contemporary, helped by the poet Luis García Montero. Following his advice, he has prepared a repertoire of 15 songs for which the Canarian singer and songwriter Pedro Guerra has composed the music, with the only exception of his own poem “Soneto del ángel deseado” that has been transformed into a song by Poveda himself.
The album, produced by Joan Albert Amargós, features the guitar player Juan Gómez Chicuelo, and amongst the guests there are Miguel Ríos, Ana Belén and Joaquín Sabina, who is also the composer of the verses of “Enrique y Granada”. The eclecticism and freedom of choice of this new collection of songs allow him to include from Quevedo (“Hielo abrasador”) and Lope de Vega (“Desmayarse, atreverse”) to Gil de Biedma (“No volveré a ser joven”), Borges (“La lluvia”), Lorca (“El poeta pide a su amor que le escriba”), Neruda (“Amor mío si muero y tú no mueres”) or Aute (“Querido Guerra”).
Miguel Poveda was one of the guests of Víctor Manuel at the concert “50 años no es nada”, which celebrated the Asturian singer and songwriter´s 50th anniversary of his stage debut. He says that Poveda “joins his great skill with his flexibility to make a tango, a copla or a seguiriya believable. He moves us because when he sings, he shakes as if he was a green stick…He´s a miracle of joy and vitality”.
