Melodic pop-folk in Catalan
A music teacher, an advertising agent and an engineering student: quite a curious combination for one of the most recent proposals of Catalan pop. Marina Prades (leading vocal and violin), Gus Wallin (composer, lyrics, acoustic guitar and vocals) and Lluís De Puig (vocals, violin and acoustic guitar) are the three members of Màia, a band created in 2012 that has released this year its debut album, “Miracles ambulants”.
Influenced both by modern and classical music, Maià delivers an elegant pop, rich in orchestration and details, in which the violin sound and the voices´harmony prevail, with impeccable melodies and lyrics that explain stories with a mixture of urban poetry, personal metaphors and dreamy overtones. As they describe themselves, “we don´t know how to catalogue ourselves, but that shouldn´t be difficult: we do songs in Catalan in a pop-folk melodic style with an indie touch”.
