One of the big names of popular music
Bob Dylan is a classic whose records have been crucial, not only for their melodic achievements, but also for their lyrics. At 74 he still is in great shape, as we can certify in “Shadows in the Night”, in which he covers ballads made popular by Frank Sinatra. He is also in the headlines because of the release of “The Basement Tapes Complete”, that compiles for the first time all the recordings he did with The Band in 1967.
He´s a permanent nomad and the stages are his second home. We could use the name he gave to one of his tours “Never Ending Tour” to say that this endless tour is the soul food he uses to resurrect his songbook, always with his peculiar voice as a trademark.
He started his career as a folk icon and then became more electric in the legendary 1965 Newport Festival. His song “Like a Rolling Stone” was the perfect peak of a trilogy of essential albums: “Bringing It All Back Home”, “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Blonde on Blonde”.
Considered as one of the most influential persons in the 20th century, his work includes 36 studio albums, a poetic prose book, “Tarantula”, the first volume of his autobiography, “Chronicles”, and six books with his plastic art. The impact of Dylan is analyzed in the acclaimed documentary “No Direction Home” directed by Martin Scorsese.
